Egg coffee, all the secrets about it

Egg coffee, all the secrets about it

Egg coffee is one of the most original coffee you can find in Hanoi and in Vietnam in general. Egg coffee is made of coffee, condensed milk, egg and sometimes you can have some chocolate sauce on the top of it as you saw in our vlog. This coffee is very historical as it was invented during an historical event. Indeed, during the war with French, there was a shortage in milk in Vietnam. Vietnamese people had to find a solution in order to replace the milk in their coffee. That’s why, Nguyen Giang created it in 1946 and opened the first Giang Café. On its beginning, egg coffee was not very popular among Vietnamese people as the taste of egg tended to be too strong. However, in the 1980s, the egg coffee started to become famous. This was because the consistency of the coffee was better and was possible thanks to the invention of the blender. The eggy taste was still there but was less strong. You can also find on our YouTube channel, a vlog where we went to Giang Café under the name of “WE TRIED EGG COFFEE !!! - FOOD TOUR IN HANOI, OLD QUARTER”. This time we wanted to show you a coffee shop less famous located just next to Hoan Kiem Lake. You have to know that now, the son of Giang is managing the Café and his sister is the owner of Dinh Café. The family is involved a lot on coffee shop industry. You still can visit these two coffee shops during your visit of Hanoi but keep in mind that both of them are very crowded as they are very popular in the capital of Vietnam. Here is the recipe of egg coffee according to legalnomad website: - Ingredients: 1 egg 3 teaspoons of Vietnamese coffee powder (Vietnamese coffee is available on Amazon here) 2 teaspoons of sweetened condensed milk Boiling water - Directions: Brew a small cup of Vietnamese coffee. (Vietnamese coffee filters available on Amazon here. Also, for visual step-by-step of the brew process, there is a good set of photos explaining how to here.) Crack an egg and discard the whites. Put the yolk and the sweetened condensed milk in a small, deep bowl and whisk vigorously until you end up with a frothy, fluffy mixture like the one above. Add a tablespoon of the brewed coffee and whisk it in. In a clear coffee cup (we’re going for aesthetics here), pour in your brewed coffee, then add the fluffy egg mixture on top. Presto. Egg coffee. Pho Cuon: the best Vietnamese dish ?

We keep going our food adventure in Hanoi with Pho Cuon. Pho Cuon is one of the most popular dishes of Hanoi. It looks like spring rolls from the outside but is totally different inside. It’s made from rice paper as you can see with its white colour. Inside you will find herbs, greens and sliced beef. Pho Cuon is a fresh dish and when you will eat it, you should put the rolls into the broth (made of fish sauce, sugar and vinegar). You can find a lot of Pho Cuon restaurants in Hanoi but most of them are located near West Lake. You will enjoy the atmosphere of West Lake which is a peaceful and restful place. The restaurant where we went to eat Pho Cuon is called Huong Mai and is the most popular one. Indeed, you can find several Huong Mai restaurants in Hanoi. Here is the address of the restaurant we went: 25 Ngũ Xã, Trúc Bạch, Ba Đình, Hà Nội Opening time: 9AM – 11PM from Monday to Sunday About GoAsiaDayTrip: We are a Vietnamese Online Travel Agency offering tours, cruises and airport transfers almost everywhere in South East Asia. Eating Bun Cha at Obama Restaurant in Hanoi

Barack OBAMA Bun Cha restaurant: yes this is the nickname of the Huong Lien Restaurant. Bun Cha is a traditional Vietnamese dish. The recipe of Bun Cha could change according to the restaurant. In Huong Lien restaurant you can find the most traditional version of Bun Cha. This dish comes along with 3 different things: - A plate of fresh herbs, - A plate of rice noodles, - A bowl of cold broth with grilled pork. If you already went to Vietnam you should know that fresh herbs and rice noodles are very popular in Vietnam and come along with many dishes. Concerning the broth of Bun Cha it’s made of vinegar, sugar and fish sauce. These ingredients make it even more unique. You can find a lot of restaurants offering Bun Cha in Hanoi. However, the Huong Lien restaurant is little bit special as you will see in the video. This restaurant has the chance to welcome the former US President Barack OBAMA with the American Chef Anthony BOURDAIN. They met here during their trip to Hanoi, Sir OBAMA helped Anthony BOURDAIN with his food report for CNN. This meeting was showed on an international scale and made Bun Cha famous everywhere in the world and especially in United States. The Huong Lien was already famous before the venue of Barack and Anthony. However, since the visit of these two stars the Huong Lien restaurant entered in a new dimension. Nowadays, you will see a lot of pictures of OBAMA & BOURDAIN displayed on the wall. The popularity of this restaurant increased a lot and it’s almost crowded every time. That’s why the sound of our video is not so clear and we are sorry about that but the subtitles will help you to understand clearly what Bun Cha is. You can find different menus on this restaurant. Here are the most popular one: - COMBO OBAMA: 1 Bun Cha + 1 Fried Seafood Roll + 1 Hanoi Beer = 90K VND ($4) - Bun Cha: Grilled Pork + Rice Vermicelli + Herbs with Broth of sugar vinegar fish sauce = 40K VND ($2) - Pork Skewer: 20K VND ($1) On the video we ate one traditional Bun Cha with a can of Pepsi.
